Despite the increasing need for social welfare in general and welfare for the aged in particular, there has been, if any, little interests from the government and the public. The government amended󰡒the welfare law of the aged󰡓in 1993 to bring about better changes. Any qualified private corporation based on this law is allowed to take part in various profit-making projects not only for the aged but also for the aging.
Since silver industries in Korea are not much developed compared with advanced societies, there should be more active efforts and investments from non-government organizations as well as the government.
This study attempts to analyze státus-quó and problems related to housing, medical service, and financial support to improve welfare programs for the aged.
The study also indicates a several suggestions and systematic schemes for the further studies.
