Factors Affecting ‘Work-Life Balance’ of Female Public Servants in Local Governmentdownload
The purpose of this study was to theoretically explore and empirically examine
the overall factors affecting ‘Work-Life Balance(WLB)’ of female public servants.
The Korean government implemented a work-life balance(WLB) and work-family
balance policy for public servants. However, it has not been empirically investigated
whether work-life balance(WLB) and work-family balance(WFB) policies for female
public servants have been established in local governments. This study had questions
about the work-life balance(WLB) and influencing factors for female public servants
in local government. This study analyzed the concept of WLB by dividing it into
a balance of family, leisure and self-growth. The findings are summarized as follows.
First, the WLB of female public servants was divided into ‘work and family’, ‘work
and leisure’ and ‘work and self-growth’ in empirical analysis. Second, various
variables have emerged that explain the overall WLB of female public servants.
The following variables were significant: cohabitation with child, preschool children,
household labor division, health status, job autonomy, job stress, support by boss,
women-friendliness at work, work-family institutions, monthly income, department,
overtime. So, the overall WLB of female public servants were influenced by various
reasons. In conclusion, this study discussed various implications based on these
results.
