The purpose of this study was to examine the current states in terms of theretirement perception and policy implications for those fire-fighting officers whoare scheduled to retire. The survey was conducted for the 214 Seoulfire-fighting officers aged 50 years old or above. The results of study was asfollow. First, the retirement perception was shown to be generally positive;however, the preparation level for retirement was found to be low. Second, therewas a high degree of interest for retirement management. Third, the mostpreferred institution as an operating entity for retirement management programswas found to be a private institution. In addition, the opinion of building andoperating a support center dedicated for retired fire-fighting officers accountedfor the highest proportion as the most appropriate method to operate theaforementioned programs. As a result, it would be imperative to seek for ameasure to implement a system such as the retirement management supportcenter, which can provide an integrated service that includes retirement planning,education, consultation, provision of information after retirement for the purposeof an active operation of retirement management of fire-fighting officers.
