This study investigates the level of computerized information utilization in local government and effective ways of enhancing information sharing among departments. The district of Dongdaemun-Gu of the City of Seoul was selected as a case for this study. Among various departments, four departments of Urban Management Division, five departments of Construction & Transportation Division and Land Registration Department of Planning & Finance Division were investigated for their information sharing activities.
It is concluded that technical factors such as information system and network infrastructure are important to enhance information sharing among departments as expected. The institutional factors such as providing incentives for information sharing are analyzed to be more important to enhance information sharing activities in local government.
