The Korea Local Administration Review

One of the critical problems of Korean society is the crisis of province. In the discourses of Local Public Administration, many alternatives that might solve some problems of province have been suggested. But a theoretical framework that can explain the crisis of province has not been posited satisfactorily. Provinciality is not given naturally, but made through the interaction between the center and the province. In order to illuminate this process, the production model of provinciality is theorized in this study. This model has two theoretical origins, which are othering theory in philosophy and internal colonialism theory in political economy. With the production model of provinciality, we can explicate a mechanism that the province is created as an inferior being. This model will be available for illuminating some reasons which the crisis of province is happened in Korea
