This study investigates the effect of job characteristics on public servicemotivation(PSM), which is known as a core factor that can boost theperformance of a public organization. Thus, we will have focus of study how toboost PSM. To generate PSM is from inherently individual characteristics andthe process of re-socialization. Also this study measures and estimates themoderating effect of ethical climate on the PSM of public officials in the Koreanlocal government.The results of the analysis show that job characteristics increase the PSM ofpublic officials while endogenous motivation partly mediate the effect of jobcharacteristics on PSM. In addition, the relationship between job characteristicsand PSM is moderated by ethical climate(altruism). Also practical andtheoretical implications are discussed in this paper.
