A Study on the Spatial Distribution and Locational Characteristics of Creative Industrydownload
The paper has attempted to redefine the scope of creative industry and toreclassify it into three categories based on the type of service available toconsumers ; technical service creative industry, information service creativeindustry and amusement service creative industry. Furthermore the paper, based on the above definition, has aimed at investigating its locationalcharacteristics empirically. Some interesting results are found as follows:First, creative industry tends to specialize in the large cities rather thansmall and medium-sized cities. Second, creative industry has spatiallyconcentrated into the Capital Regions during 2000-2009. Third, within theCapital Regions creative industry has spreaded out from the central place,Seoul, to its suburbs. Fourth, technology-oriented creative industry andinformation-oriented creative industry mainly specialized in Kyunggi area whileleisure-oriented creative industry heavily clustered inside Seoul. This findinggives an important policy implication to the local government which has a planto boost creative industry. That is, regional specialization strategy is needed topromote creative industry. Large cities are asked to focus on amusementservice creative industry while suburban area on technical service orinformation service creative industry.
