Now, South Korea is at the entrance of multi-cultural society. As advanced countriesillustrated, the ethnical diversification has opportunities and threats. The appropriate policyis needed to solve the problem in ethnic places. This study aims to propose the directionof local community policy for ethnic places.Following the introduction, Chapter 2 deals with theoretic discussions of the multi-culturalsociety and space. Particularly this research is focused on the formation of social network,institutional support for the formation of social network and especially improvement of theeveryday life space for enhancing local community in ethnic places.After delineating the spatial patterns of foreign population in Korea in Chapter 3, Chapter4 conducts in-depth cases studies to explore characteristics of ethnic places selected one byone according to the type of ethnic places-international marriage immigrants and foreignworkers. The chosen places are Wongok-dong in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, Geumwang-eup inEumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do. Through this, the mechanism that enhances the localcommunity in ethnic places can be lightened.Chapter 5 proposes institutional changes necessary to execute successful programms forenhancing local community in ethnic places and also what the central and local governmentshould do is recommended.
